Beautiful location overlooking the dales, breakfast was beautifully cooked. The staff were exceptionally accommodating to the needs of my elderly mother, and dietary requirements of my wife, couldn’t have done more.

We loved the Black Swan! The service was outstanding. I travelled every week for work before covid and I have seldom had better service anywhere in the world I've been. Definitely the best service I've had in any hotel in the UK. I have mobility issues and while the Swan has no lift the staff couldn't do enough to help with bags etc., Good free parking behind the pub with plenty of parking spots. Breakfast was very good, best I've had in a while. The only drawback was dinner was not as good as the breakfast. Bar staff are very friendly. Lots of locals come in so you know it's good. The location is perfect with a short walk to any shops and to Pickering station (NYMR). We plan on coming back later in the year.

Gorgeous, peaceful setting. Wonderful and very personable hosts that let us arrive early. Marvelous breakfast. Our itinerary was too rushed, wishing we were able to stay for a few days. Highly recommended!

We stayed in Thornton Le Dale a couple of miles outside.
We stayed in Thornton Le Dale a couple of miles outside. This location is ideal in that it is within easy reach of most local attractions and also the coast. Plenty of pubs, cafes and independent shops.

Nice little market town with plenty of places to eat in the evenings, even in the winter. It is a good centre for visiting other places nearby and it has the main attraction of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Clean tidy and relaxing.
Clean tidy and relaxing. The birds at the pond were lovely to see. Even saw a kingfisher. Hot tub was very nice and they even turned up the temperature to meet our preference. The hot tub was checked and attended to promptly ever day of our stay. I know Pickering very well as my daughters lives there. We used the site as a place to relax and be with my family after loosing my brother few weeks before. My husband had also retired that weekend so we wanted to be close to our family. All our needs were met but could have done with few more cooking dishes and trays as we did not want to go out to eat. Would recommend the site to others.

Such a beautiful part of the country. The town itself is great just to have a good walk around. But you are close to other locations eg. Whitby. To really enjoy in my opinion one of the best locations in England. Excellent for walkers, photography ect

Beautiful town. The NYR is a real tourist attraction.
Beautiful town. The NYR is a real tourist attraction. The stops are interesting and mostly independent! Parking is plentiful! Pickering is a fabulous base to explore the moors! Just 20 minutes to Whitby, 20 miles to York. Plenty of places to eat, lovely cafes and pubs! Don’t forget to visit the Castle. Scarborough is a 30 minute drive. People in the town are very friendly and the shops are very welcoming of dogs. Pickering is a real gem of a town! Flamingo Land theme park is about 10 mins from Pickering.

The purpose of our visit was to visit the Bangers and Cash Auction House, and to visit there memorable museum in Thornton le Dale. Pickering was a nice place. We went out of season so it was quiet and only went for two days. Ate at a Indian restaurant which was recommended to us.
Lark Cottage is very well appointed and located near the town centre. Everything was clean and working, with all the necessary facilities for a self-catering stay. It's located within walking distance of Pickering Station and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway which was the primary reason for our visit with our two grandsons. Candy was a very helpful host and communicated everything well. She obviously takes pride in her holiday cottage, which is lovely to experience. We will try to book again in future.
The location and parking were excellent - the NYMR Pickering Station is just 5 minutes walk away. The breakfast was served in the conservatory and was virtuously faithful to the positive reviews (enormous tea pots a hit). The rooms were spacious and clean - they'd actually been redecorated just weeks before our stay. Staff all friendly and knowledgeable. An experience at a good price. It's just how a small hotel should be run.
The location was within a short walk to the town and the log burner was an added bonus for us kept us very warm and cozy. Lots to do close by from Scarborough to whitby and we even went to the famous Bangers and cash shop in Pickering the cottage was very clean and tidy and there was plenty utensils and cooking equipment and much more for our needs. I strongly recommend this little cottage as it was peaceful and quiet.
To me the hotel had a "classic" quality about it. I loved the patio the garden it was so green, pretty and quiet. The public rooms where you could order a drink was nice. The dining room, the size of it, and the staff was excellent. The breakfast was good size and delicious. My room spacious, and loved the bath tub after a long day of hiking. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend the Forest and Vale.
We had a lovely room at The Black Swan. You can order exactly what you want for breakfast and they were delicious. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We liked that they were interested in where you were headingfor the day and gave good tips on where to visit in the area. It was great to find a private car park at the back of the hotel also an area to sit outside and have a drink.
I was greeted with a warm welcome and every member of staff I met seemed friendly and approachable. The room was clean, spacious and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. There is plenty of free private parking at the back of the hotel which is important to me. I had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and enjoyed both meals, especially sampling some of the wine list.
The hotel is surrounded by rolling hills and idyllic views, the staff were very welcoming and accomodating even though our booking didn't show up on their system upon arrival and although we hadn't made a reservation for food, the chef offered to make us anything we liked, would definitely visit again
Our second stay and absolutely love it here friendly, warm welcome and thoroughly recommended the room was warm comfortable spotless and well appointed, breakfast was wonderful nothing too much trouble.
A great location 5 minutes stroll into Pickering. We look forward to returning in the new year 😀
Very friendly and warm welcome. Had dinner in the hotel which was served piping hot, my gammon being exactly how I had requested it cooked. Exceptionally clean room and throughout. Good night's comfortable sleep. No noise from nearby road. The manager knows her job and is a good 'people' person.
All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful despite shortages and the cleanliness of the entire hotel was exceptional as well.
The bar and dining area were comfortable and had a relaxing atmosphere.
We would 100% stay again as we were made very welcome and enjoyed our stay very much.
The choice for breakfast was exceptional and so was the service of the staff. The room that we were in was at the front of the Hotel facing out onto the roundabout and the main route through Pickering but we never actually heard the traffic, and the room size was very generous.
The apartment had everything we needed, especially in the kitchen. We were in the Cropton apartment on the second floor, it overlooked a pub car park but it was quiet and there was a nice view. Centrally located so everywhere in Pickering is within easy walking distance.
We enjoyed our stay at Crossways. The room was comfortable and the staff friendly. Location for Pickering was excellent it the hotel was easy to find. The breakfast was very good without it being so big as to put you off. Essentially we had exactly what we wanted.
Telephoned owner a couple of days before stay. He was very helpful informing me bread, milk, biscuits would be provided for our arrival. Perfectly located in Pickering. Accommodation perfectly adequate for a two night stay by 3 motorcyclists.
