The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.
The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.
One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.
Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.
Options on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments near the train station, and guest houses with parking. The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport to the south.
Beautiful town… definitely recommend Harry’s walking tour. (Free and very entertaining and informative) we have a tip at the end of it.
Felt safe, lots of restaurants, shops and history. The valley gardens were fabulous too.

Harrogate is lovely and our only regrets were the food on offer in the hotel restaurant plus the attempt to rip me off when the bill came. And we would have liked a bit more time so as to visit Bettys tea shop

Harrogate is a very pretty town and makes a good base to explore the area. It has lots of good restaurants like Piccolino, The Tannin Level or Oliveta and many great cafés including the famous Betty's. There aren't many sights in the town but it's very pleasant just to walk around and enjoy the architecture and gardens. Harlow Carr RHS Gardens is worth a visit. Historic York is only a 35 minute train ride away and gorgeous Knaresborough only 15 minutes on the same route.
Still, you'll need quite deep pockets as everything is at least as expensive as in London.

RHS Harlow Carr is my favourite place to visit and the purpose of my trip. I ate at the Old Swan Hotel where I stayed. Pretty easy to get around although there are a lot of one way streets and sometimes it is tricky to drive down some of them due to double parking on each side as the roads can be quite narrow. I would keep to the main roads next time.

Harrogate is a lovely spa town with picturesque gardens, lovely shops and a lot of historic buildings. Everything is within easy walking distance if a bit hilly. Harrogate has a great choice of places to eat. we will return.
Wonderful country hotel, set in the charming Ripley Castle estate and thankfully, far away from the Brits on Tour Brigade. Peaceful location, with beautiful walks, tea shop, gin distillery and only a short drive to Harrogate, another great English town. Perfect for a break from any city or suburb to see how great England and North Yorkshire can be. Fantastic value too!
This modern looking Hotel is in a great location being close to the centre of Harrogate!! we had a deluxe Double room which was very spacious and the huge double bed very comfortable ! the Breakfast was a buffet and with plenty of choice and the cooked Breakfast was always piping hot! with parking on sight at a discounted rate was also a nice perk!!
This property is beautiful and located in central Harrogate. The rooms offer beautiful views of Harrogate’s iconic landmarks and is less than 10 minutes from the train and bus station, movie theaters, most restaurants, bars and clubs. Even the iconic Turkish baths is just up the road. Next time I come to Harrogate, I will be staying here again.
The breakfast was great, and the hotel was at a great location to easily get to the convention centre. The room was clean and really comfy, with a good amount of outlets for my charger and hairdryer and stuff. Bonus points for one of the outlets being by the bed. The bathroom was really large too, with a great sized bath.
The hotel was good value for money, ideally located within easy reach of all Harrogate has to offer. A very comfortable stay and wonderful breakfast. Customer care was excellent in advance of our stay (personal requests for an elderly relay) and throughout our stay. Thank you for a fabulous stay.
Lovely old grand hotel within a 5-minute walk from Harrogate town centre. Parking is on-site, although administered by Harrogate Borough Council so a charge is applicable. Dog friendly too so even better. We only stayed one night and skipped breakfast so can't really comment any further.
The best night’s sleep I have had in a long time, due to a comfy bed and no disturbance from inside or outside the hotel. Handy for the conference centre, Harrogate shops and Valley Gardens. A good breakfast with excellent service.
Ambience of the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast, all rooms , near town and excellent car parking and price. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you
Very beautiful old hotel, friendly staff and a great breakfast. Perfect location for Harrogate Convention Centre and the train station and very reasonable price.

Good varied breakfast the following morning.
Nice clean comfortable room. Very quiet neighborhood and the hotel seemed quiet (although the rooms near mine were empty). About a 10-15 minute walk into town.
