The location of the hotel was right on! Right on a square where the Haarlem main train station is, very easy to get to other cities of the Netherlands. Hotel was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was very good. The staffs could not be any nicer and helpful.

The suite was very comfortable. The king bed was a treat and the room was surprisingly quiet as it was on a busy street. Anne was our staff contact and had everything in order for us.

A fantastic location, beautiful old hotel, despite some small details we loved our stay. The location and actual room location were fantastic.
The only balcony we could see on the street side, very small but big doors opening with the massive cathedral across the narrow street. They had an elevator. The bathroom was quite new and modern with a heated floor.. We really did like this place and in particular this room. A fantastic location as the city life goes by on the street below. The beds were super comfortable. All the staff were so very nice and helpful as soon as you stopped in the lobby, they always greeted you with a smile and were quick to help.

Haarlem is a pretty town, and a lively destination.
Haarlem is a pretty town, and a lively destination. I mainly walked around, looking at the canals and houses. One of my photos shows one of the older canalside housing (green door). The station is a lovely Art Nouveau building with tiled pictures, the only one in the Netherlands. Transport is easy, and Haarlem is convenient for Amsterdam, Leiden, etc, and for visiting the bulb fields at Keukenhof in spring.

Haarlem is beautiful in it's own right with lots of historic buildings, and charming streets which have been greened with tree, shrub and flower planting. There is the Frans Hals museum to visit, and much more. Take a walking tour of "Monumental Haarlem"
Haarlem is also very conveniently situated for Amsterdam and surrounding areas. We used public transport all the time. Just swipe on and off the bus or train, and everything is taken care of. Really simple, and it all works smoothly.
We also found some really good restaurants for our evening meals.

Haarlem is a wonderful city to stay in as it has the canals, lots of history, good shopping and plentiful restaurants.
The Grotemarkt has the oldest organ in Europe which Mozart played on and Corrie Ten Boom’s house(who hid the Jews in WW2) is better than Anne Franks! The very first museum in the Netherlands is also here-Teylers. The Saturday market is wonderful.
It is only 15 minutes by train back into Amsterdam and you have a better feel of regular Dutch folks in this beautiful town.

First, I really liked Amsterdam.
First, I really liked Amsterdam. But it was really really crowded, even the first week of April. Then, when I got to Haarlem, I realized it was similar to Amsterdam, with all the old world Europe charm, old buildings, & canals, but not the hordes of crazy tourists. I ended up liking Haarlem better than Amsterdam! Even better than Rotterdam, and maybe the Haag (except I only spent a few hours there). Easy to walk everywhere, and I rented a bicycle and rode all the way to the beach and back on easy, nice separated bike paths. Also, the bike riders are not as aggressive as in Amsterdam. So as an American tourist, in my 50s, I felt perfectly comfortable riding my bike all over. Of course, you still need to be hyper aware of oncoming cyclists and cars… also, they had a secure bike garage near the main central Plaza, where you could lock your bike for free, with a guard watching over it. If you left it overnight, you had to pay something. So I was able to lock my eBay inside there while visiting main attractions in the plaza, like the church with the pipe organ.
I will definitely choose this as a base next time, instead of Amsterdam. I considered staying in Leiden too, but never got a chance to go there.
Room was good sized, bed was very comfortable. The staff is very attentive and the facility is nicely maintained. Being near the station was very convenient and the main part of town is just a short (7~10 minute) walk. We stayed here instead of Amsterdam and found that Haarlem has numerous restaurants and some interesting museums. The bus to the airport was super convenient. It definitely beats staying in an airport hotel if you just have a few days between flights.
The staff were amazing, all were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated right in the center of Haarlem close to all amenities. The bar and restaurant is fantastic, the food is just superb. If you're looking for a slower paced holiday with a nice easy vibe, go to Haarlem. You can still get to Amsterdam in 15 minutes, Leiden in 20, and Alkmaar in 40 if you need to. I will definitely return and stay at this hotel.
We stayed for two nights and the location was perfect. The walking distance both to the main station (to take the train to the beach or Amsterdam), where the parking garage ist located, as well as to the city centre are very short. A huge bonus: the hotel is in a very very quiet street, so the nights were highly relaxing.
LOVED this place! I stayed in Amsterdam for the other 2 nights and I regretted moving. I was happy to pay a little extra for this hostel. There wasn't a buzz of the big city just the joy of peacefulness in the interiors and the smiles of the staff. This is a good bridge between mid-range quality on a budget.
Centrally located MAF is well suited to explore Haarlem on foot. We disovered a lot of nice dining places (Miyagi & Jones, Piek, Anne & Max). This is our first time in Netherlands and people are very friendly. Everything gets done in such a calm and without pressure. We love it and will surely be back.
Excellent location, comfortable room and bed, super clean, plentiful breakfast and lovely hosts. Henk and Anne-Marie made our stay an unforgettable positive experience. I highly recommend staying with them instead of in Amsterdam. They will help you with everything and much more tranquil and relaxed.
Warm, cozy, beautiful natural light. The shower was amazing. Any prior problems reported by other traverlers have been fix, we found nothing wrong. Super private even at ground level. Very accesible. Location was excelent for us, easy transfer to Amsterdam, but Haarlem is lovely, great for families.
Location was excellent - easy to get around Haarlem by bike or bus or on foot. Amsterdam very easy to get to by train or bus. The place itself was clean, comfortable and of such a high standard. The owners were incredibly helpful and provided a well-stocked fridge as part of the service.
This location was perfect. This was a pre-cruise stay for us, and the first time to Amsterdam. The price was much less than being in the city and it was close to several restaurants and bars to relax after a busy day touring Amsterdam. The train station was within walking distance.
The location of the hotel was right on! Right on a square where the Haarlem main train station is, very easy to get to other cities of the Netherlands. Hotel was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was very good. The staffs could not be any nicer and helpful.
Convenient, quiet location close to a large park but a short walk to the main part of Haarlem. Bus station was nearby. The room and bed were very comfortable. Reception helped us book a train before our departure and arranged a taxi for Amsterdam Centraal.
We saved a bit of money by staying at the Lion in Harlem for a few days. This hotel provided us a great base for many day trips around the Netherlands. Bright, clean and welcoming staff and a surprisingly larger room.
The place is very near to haarlem station. East to reach from Amsterdam. Host was really friendly. The place was well clean and well maintained. I will be going back for sure when I visit haarlem next time.
This is not in Amsterdam. There is a sister hotel in Amsterdam City Centre that we had intended to book. Booking with this hotel wouldn't switch our reservation to city centre and we're largely unhelpful.
The hotel is well located, near to Haarlem City Centre and near to the train station. It's easy to commute from Haarlem to Amsterdam or Utrecht. I won't be disappointed at all.
