The hotel was fantastic. Location right on the lake with great views, very very friendly staff and good clean rooms. We were late one morning to breakfast (which is also a huge great buffet) and they let us get a good breakfast anyway. Everyone there is super friendly. Parking is right out the door so that is very easy too. Great value and experience for our family.

We only stayed for the night as we were heading Milford Sounds, it was my first time in there and I found it a very relaxing town to have some drinks, a nice night walk and then to bed. Getting up early in the morning to see the lake with the first lights of the day is a must

I like that Te Anau is somewhere to stay for visiting Milford Sounds and also for a cruise on Lake Manapouri. It is also the gateway to many other activities. There is a good road in and plenty of good eating places and the supermarket Fresh Choice has an excellent bakery.

Great place to enjoy the Great walks of New Zealand.
Great place to enjoy the Great walks of New Zealand.
We did the Keplar track for 3 days and it was amazing. The scenery is breath taking and we got some outstanding whether. It even snowed on our hike which wasn't really expected for the time of year. The Huts were all clean and tidy and the Hutt Wardens do such a great job of keeping everyone informed and safe. Would recommend this Hike. It was also nice to come back and stay at a comfortable and reasonably priced place. Great Hot showers and comfortable rooms. We will be back.

People often only go to Te Anau just to take the Milford Sound tour. There is so much for to see and do! It really is a place to just relax.
Whether it's late night strolls to the souvenir stores or restaurants or taking walks along the amazing lake views that aren't crowded by other people.
If you ever want to try out cycling, Te Anau is the place to do it. Not much traffic and the price for bike hire is cheaper than Queenstown.
If you're in on a Sunday, go visit The Life Church that. A loving warm and friendly community over there.
When it comes to food, I found food shopping, Chinese food and other restaurant prices were cheaper than Queenstown. Oh, and souvenirs are also cheaper here too.

I just love the relaxed surroundings of Te Anau, it's one of my favorites destinations for a few'nights-getaway..there is lots to do and if you're adventurous you can do even more! Amazing nature, the lake is just stunning, township is not too big but has all you could want/need. Brilliant food places...love The Ranche and the Moose. Redcliff restaurant and bar is a unexpected find, quaint and quirky but great food and staff. Overall, Te Anau is a beautiful destination if you're looking for somewhere not too touristy (at least, it doesn't feel that way)

This is a nice location which has everything.
This is a nice location which has everything. The town centre has everything that you would need. Friendly people in shops and businesses. Great range of different restaurants. Excellent tourist attractions. Very convenient to Milford Sound - 2 hours through stunning countryside. A lot better to travel from Te Anau to Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound than to come from Queenstown - 4 hours travel
The best place we found to eat and just chill at was Red Cliff Bar and Restaurant - friendly staff, exceptional food and first rate service.
A couple of must do's are: Wings and Water (float plane) with Ivan and Cruise Te Anau with Peter. Both locals, highly entertaining and knowledgeable.
The location was really easy to find and the tiny homes were really fun. Andy was a great host and recommended some great places to eat in town. I was pleasantly surprised at how well stocked and provisioned they were with glassware, tableware, etc, along with a microwave, kettle, and little dining area. Totally comfortable. Andy even provided some home made fudge which was delicious. We ate and drank wine on the porch during sunset and felt absolutely content. We wished we could have stayed in Te Anau longer and explored a little more.
The place is fine, a typical decent kiwi motel. The room maybe wasn't quite as clean as my wife would like, but it was not horrible either (she's picky). Strangely, the bathroom has been recently updated with a very modern motif, while the rest of the unit looks average, definitely not updated. Kitchenette was fine with a double stovetop, and the other kitchen aspects were good. Location was fine also, but then Te Anau is pretty small! Good value for money given it was the busy season there. All-in-all, about a B, maybe a B+.
The room was very spacious and clean and had a lovely balcony. The motel is within easy walking distance of the centre of Te Anau. The owners were very friendly and informative - before we arrived, they messaged us via booking.com to say that many local restaurants were struggling to meet demand because of staff shortages. They recommended that we reserve a table beforehand which we did. The owners were also very knowledgeable about the area and suggested places to stop, on the way to Milford Sound.
Great Value for Money and perfect place to relax at Te Anau.. From the Hotel room I had experienced the good lake view, mountains, amazing sunset, birds music, etc.,. Initially, I thought it’s little far away from city but later I felt this is right choice considering the above. They have provided all necessary kitchenette for cooking. Comfortable queen size bed, clean restroom including all time hot water, more storage space, friendly staff and amazing view from hotel which made very happy trip.
The lodge had a real old world charm about it that I have not experienced in any of my travels. Mark, our host, is charm personified and spared no effort to make us comfortable from the moment we entered his lodge.
So tastefully decorated, with each item and piece of furniture located with great thought. The old nunnery has really come alive under Mark.
I encourage folk to visit Te Anau and stay with Mark...you won't regret it.
Fabulous B&B! Loved the location, comfortable room, and delicious breakfast. Hannah is a wonderful, warm, and caring host, who will go out of her way to insure you have everything you need. The room offers a great deal of privacy and the common area is substantial, with many amenities. Dunluce Boutique B&B is an excellent place to stay while visiting Te Anau.
The apartment in Te Anau completely met our travel needs for our group. The outside space was lovely - could sit outside and kick a ball around or have a glass of wine. Plenty of room in the unit and nice to have a closed off bedroom for our son. The kitchen was small but we were able to prepare food there when needed. Staff was very friendly and helpful!
The hosts were very nice and they gave us all the instructions about the town and where to find everything we wanted, such as the restaurants and the bike rental. They served a very good breakfast, with options we could choose from. The view from the lodge and from the room was spectacular with Lake Te Anau and the mountains. Beautiful scenery!
The room was very clean and the bathrooms were modern! Rooms, bathroom and kitchen come equipped with everything you need.
The staff were very lovely and let you know all the information you need to know on the town Te Anau. They turned the heater on for us before our check in which I thought was very sweet!
Helen was friendly. Location was close to Te Anau. You get to see a few rare animals (2 alpacas, 2 horses, 1 rooster, 2 rabbits), and you may get to feed a baby sheep (although I think the host may have separated the baby sheep from its mom to provide this experience to guests).
Price quality ratio was really good. Kingsgate Hotel has everything you need for a couple of days in Te Anau and the staff were very accommodating about us leaving the car for a few more days as we went on excursions. The room was big, clean and relatively quiet.
Beautiful location in nature surroundings, close enough to Te Anau and Manapouri to explore Fiordland.
Room was big, everything clean. No problems with check-in and finding location.
Kitchen (shared space) well-equipped.
Red Tussock Motel was top class , we were in room 14 in the newer block and the facilities were world class , we would stay again if in Te Anau . Great kitchenette where nothing was missing to make a meal for the family .
Check in was seamless and they left a key for us at the front desk. We had only booked a lodge for 2 people, but the place actually had 2 full bedrooms so we had a ton of space! Great location in Te Anau!
Te Anau is a beautiful resort town on the way to Milford Sound. The hotel has large, comfortable rooms and is next door to the best restaurant in town: Redcliff. They have a laundromat and free parking.
If the year were 1997 then I am sure this would be the best in hotel luxury. With that in mind, the hotel provides you with all the basics you will need - laundry facility, small gym, in-house cafe etc.
We visted Te Anau in June. It wasn't busy which was perfect for a quiet holiday. The room was super clean, had perfect location, and excellent view to the lake. I will stay here if we come back to NZ.
the motel was exceptionally clean and the kitchenette had a larger than typical hotel refrigerator, toaster, plates and cutlery. very comfortable stay.
