As soon as you drive into the De Opstal property you sense this is a different kind of place. The owners don’t just DO hospitality as a means to an end; they ARE hospitality embodied. It feels like it’s their life’s mission. De Opstal’s old charm accommodations are surrounded by magnificent flower gardens, fruit trees, and fields that are not over-manicured, rather reflective of the owners’ true love of nature and deep desire to create an environment for their guests that engages all their senses. The only downside was having to leave this slice of paradise.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The bathroom was a little outdated, but we could overlook that. We were really happy to have a fridge in the room. Staff were incredibly friendly and accomodating to our early mornings and the breakfast was nice. We had a great room with access to the pool for the kids. It's a great hotel for families with children, it suited the purpose of our stay.

Fabulous tents so well equipped and great to be on edge of dam, although very noisy with birds.
Great food and staff.
Good to see the wildlife conservation, went to see lions being fed

Was quite surprised by the wine tasting opportunities nearby in Calitzdorp. The Safari Ranch was great, Cango Wildlife Park was exceptional, excellent managed facility. The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge elephant experience was a bucket list type experience. The Chandelier Game Lodge Buffalo as well as Giraffe experience was awesome.
The Total Garage opposite the quaint Nostalgia Restaurant are friendly and have decent wood that is affordable. The Spar is well stocked and there is an emergency Clicks Pharmacy that supports that requirement.
All and all a pleasant holiday destination with many activities to plan over the course of a week visit.

Cango Caves - do the adventure tour.
Cango Caves - do the adventure tour. Conservation Centre - as ethical as sanctuaries open to the public can be, see a huge range of animals. Meerkat Tours - fun and cute but quite overpriced and the owner is horrendously misogynistic. Nostalgie restaurant - food was amazing, however park immediately in front of the restaurant and not any further - there are 'parking attendants' that demand money, and even after paying one the others come and intimidate you (banging on the car and throwing gun symbols).

Perfect place to stop over for the night or two.
Perfect place to stop over for the night or two. Other than that there is not much to do here.
You can find big supermarket for every day shopping. We eat at hotel restaurant as not much choice. A lot of powerful like in most places in SA, just got to be careful where and when you go out.

What a lovely clean and friendly town with a lot to offer.
What a lovely clean and friendly town with a lot to offer. We went for a lovely wine pairing and pizzas at Karusa winery and also drove on the gravel road from Oudtshoorn to De Rust past the beautiful Rustica Olive Farm.
Excellent value for money and good place to relax and avoid the Oudtshoorn heat. We survived there +40C comfortably
Three small swimming pools and lot of trees provide needed relief. It is also quite beautiful and we would love to stay there for longer. Very convienient for Cango Caves
Very good for kids - not only pools, but also small ostriches (it has a real working farm attached, so it is not a touch and play place, but the real stuff) and bunch of antilopes and roes
One can even make own braii
Brilliant breakfast buffet
this is my favorite place to stay in Oudtshoon, my second home· It is not a backpackers place, not a 5* hotel, but this is way better : It is a wonderful house, very tastefully decorated, a lot of charm and very peaceful. the kitchen is well organised.
the outdoor is perfect to chill or have a braii, , beautiful view . Ilse is a wonderful host, she does everything to make her guests feel like home, it is a magical
place.
Thanks Ilse for opening your wonderful place to the traveller, can't wait to see you again
Well appointed rooms. I was in Number 3, self catering. Friends in the two luxury rooms. All had added extras and thoughtful touches. All requests were met with swift attention and nothing was too much. Special accolades go to Britney - what a gem! Best they hold onto her!! Staff so friendly, courteous and happy. Great lady running the kitchen - sorry cannot remember her name. Good choice of Continental or English breakfast. Gardens well maintained and pools (yes two!) clean.
I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years when we come for the annual dog shows. At first they did not accept dogs then they did and made our stays fabulous even putting all the dog people in the conference room for dinner and let us bring the dogs in it was a wonderful evening.
Beautifully fitted and furnished hotel in a quiet residential location, but only a couple of minutes drive from the centre of Oudtshoorn. Spacious and luxurious room with great views. Comfortable beds and good breakfast. Staff were extremely attentive and helpful. First class hotel !
We love everything our accommodation was the best the staff and managers was like family. I would definitely recommend Cango Rest to everyone. My next trip to Oudtshoorn I would definitely stay at Cango Rest again. See you soon. Thank you very much for a lovely stay.
Best accomodation of the whole trip. Errol and Venita are wonderful and amazing people. Beautiful pension. Hospitality cannot be greater. Unfortunately we just spent one night there. If you ever go to Oudtshoorn stay here. You will love it. Promised!
All done remotely, no contact with owners. Very efficient. No breakfast included. Had everything we needed for a basic one-night stay (to be close to Cango Caves). Pity that load shedding meant no fans as was sweltering heat!
The accommodation was spacious. There was a big parking space, right outside our superior room.
Everything was new and in good working order. The braai area was great...everything we needed for a short self catering stay.
The final 5km gravel road was a bit uncomfortable but probably due to the recent bad rains.
The braai fridge and small stove with kitchenette was adequate for self catering. All in all a great honeymoon stay.
Very hospitable, the owner and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Rooms were spacious, clean and well equipped; nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely return when I’m next in Oudtshoorn.
The hotel to make a follow up with the transaction I paid, than me as a client following up continuously and being asked to repay more. Felt insulted as if am a criminal and harassed on emails.
Amazing well kitted self catering units. The facilities are fantastic and centrally located within town. Gorgeous rose bushes and a swimming pool was also really dreamy.
We really appreciated the friendly service and attention to detail from Didi at reception.
Lovely private Self catering chalet with safe and secure parking.
Comfortable, relaxed setting in the country close to nearby attractions. Host Lollies was very helpful and engaging. Both breakfast and dinner were amazing.
