The hotel exceeded my expectation: located literally right by the train station, minutes of walk to the ferry to the Amalfi Coast, rooms are very spacious, well maintained and spotless clean (can walk barefoot on the floor type of clean!), free breakfast is decent and very friendly staff (big thanks to Filomina who gave me the most beautifully displayed platter when I asked for a kettle to make tea, and Marika who made extra ham when I was almost late for breakfast). The only minor downside is that it doesn't have a lift so if you have luggage, better ask for a ground floor room although even female staff will offer to help you (thanks again Filomina).

Salerno is a relaxed, peaceful city with excellent restaurants, a lively old town, and great access to other locations. It is much more economical and quieter than staying on the Amalfi Coast and is only a half hour ferry ride away from it.

Lovely big town with an old town, cobbled streets and lots...
Lovely big town with an old town, cobbled streets and lots of restaurants and bars. There is a large area of restricted traffic and parking is horrendous, even though it was April every single space along the streets and public car parks were taken. Luckily our apartment owner suggested she book us a space in a private garage and although it cost €25 per night it was well worth it. The port was within walking distance and we took a ferry to Amalfi Coast. Don’t even think about driving along the Amalfi coast as the traffic was horrendous and absolutely nowhere to park. A very busy over crowded coastline.

Lovely Lungomare with views of the mountains of the Sorrento...
Lovely Lungomare with views of the mountains of the Sorrento penisular. Railway station (from where you can travel to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum, Naples and many other places - local and further afield e.g. Rome or further south). Many buses operating all over the Salerno area and Amalfi Coast. Ferry terminal for travelling to Amalfi Coast towns and Capri.
Old Town with narrow streets thronging with shops, places to eat and drink. The Duomo with its magnificent Crypt, Villa Comunale park with the turtles, Castle Arrechi - a steep climb but a great castle and fabulous views.
Not a place for a beach holiday but I'd definitely recommend Salerno for exploring the Amalfi coast, Naples, Pompeii and the surrounding area without breaking the bank!

Great experience. Town small enough to walk easily to interesting sites. Lovely old town. Close to Pompeii and Amalfi without being a major tourist hub. Staff of Burger at greated us on the street the next day. Great personal service. The Grand Hotel was excellent. Great location near the train station and friendly helpfull staff.

1 day in Salerno was too long.
1 day in Salerno was too long. There were a lot of homeless and sketchy people. It was like the Newark of Italy...filthy. It didn't even feel like we were in Italy until we got to the old part of town. But, we didn't feel safe here either.

Such an attractive city, clean and interesting. the old town was a pleasure to walk around, the church of St Matteo an absolute must to visit, the promenade along the sea front perfect to stroll along.
lots of interesting restaurants and bars and a fabulous ice cream parlour on the sea front - bar Gelateria Nettuno is an absolute must
Sadly the botanical gardens (Minerva) are closed for restoration at present
super cute B&B with a lovely courtyard! everything was wonderful. AC, even a hairdryer, and great wifi. the host was AMAZING as well and answered all of our questions (where to get contact lens cases, to do laundry, etc). The breakfast was also great for traveling! A great spread for breakfast— don’t expect American style though— after all, it’s Italy!! do as the locals do and enjoy an espresso, a croissant and some yogurt. 😊 Salerno is a wonderful town and a great base to explore the Amalfi coast.
Great place, great host. Very central in Salerno. All great eating places are 5-10 minutes walking. The seafront is 3 minutes walking. The port to take ferrys is 15 min. So location is super!
Very quite rooms. Super comfortable beds. Clean.
Nice bathroom.
Best part is they have AC and an elevator! Which most places in Italy don't. So it was great.
Host was really helpful for suggesting places to eat, booking a taxi etc.
Was really safe for single women alone.
The host met us and let us into our room exactly as we anticipated. He is a very nice man who explained the hours of breakfast and check out. Breakfast was delicious and had everything you could need or want. The rooms were spacious, clean and the A/C worked great. The beds are a bit firmer than I prefer but that is the way it is all over Italy, to be expected. The most important thing is that it was clean and comfortable and the host was very friendly.
There are four rooms and each one is themed. We stayed in the “London” room and were very impressed by all the little details representing England. It was very well done, and most importantly the room felt clean and comfortable. The hostess was sweet and let us check in to our room when we arrived early, about 1:30pm. This was the first accommodation in Italy that actually provided cloths m, which we were really excited about. It’s the little things!
My goodness, why does everyone give this hotel such a bad score? This place is a TREASURE! The GRAND hotel Salerno, baby!
Massive rooms, nice balconies, all the stuff you possibly need I guess. OK OK OK, the whole place looks like something out of the 70s, but its hilarious! Stop taking yourselves so seriously. If you're going to be like that, why don't you spend x10 the price over on the Amalfi coast?
Cheap as chips (chips not included)
The best part of our whole time in Italy! Beautiful home, stunning views, wonderful town, and the kindnesses of Federica. Easy access to Pompei and the Amalfi Coast. The home was well-stocked, immaculate (the bath towels smelled heavenly!), and adorably decorated. Ti Racconto il Mare was everything we had hoped for, and much more. We fell in love with Federica and her beautiful home... and wished we could have stayed forever!
Very nice location directly at the sea in Salerno. From our room we had a view at the sea and could listen to the waves. The whole building is very nice and comfy and also very private. From here you can walk to the historical centre within fifteen minutes. Right next to the hotel is a supermarket you just have to cross the road. We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely come back and also recommend it to others!
Good location, clean rooms, big sitting area with well equipped kitchen.Next to the apartment there is a supermarket, bakery, walking distance to both major ferry ports, restaurants and brand shops.Special thanks to owner of the apartment,Simone just nice woman very supportive and very generous. So if you are planning to go to Salerno La casa sugli Archi is the right place to stay.
At arrival in Salerno by train there was a strike for taxi drivers. The hotel arranged pick up by mini bus at the train station and the check in was very nice.
We loved the pool and the wonderful views!
It is hard to reach to the hotel without car at arrival. But once you are there it is possible to reach town quite fast by stairs down and with escalator back.
Great place, felt more like a hotel!
The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable and it was nice and clean.
The people running it was also very nice and gave me a lot of info about things to do in the area and also good places to eat.
Only stayed for a night, but if I’m going back to Salerno I will definitely check if they have a room available!
The Hotel is located across the street from the Salerno train station, but you really don't hear the trains. It is also a short walk to the Sea, Ferries and many restaurants. The breakfast was very good with many choices of pastries, yogurts, cold cuts, bread, eggs and coffee and juice. The room (1 single) was plenty big enough and very clean.
There’s nothing not to like about this sweet, simple hotel. In fact, I decided to stay an extra night.
A short walk to the beach, to the train, and from the bus that took me to Salerno.
Clean, comfortable, and with a balcony and private bathroom.
The breakfast at the bar downstairs was very nice.
Excellent location of the apartment in the center of city Salerno. Great responsiveness and friendiness of the host. The apartment is large, clean, spacius, with all kitchen utensils. I can say that it is excellent. A basket of fruit, tea, coffe, milk, salami, butter ,... awaited us.
It is probably best location and hotel for holiday in center of Salerno. Very clean rooms and so comfortable beds . We enjoyed our stay so much. Breakfasts were great and tasty. Many thanks to friendly staff and reception! Definitely can recommend this hotel and hope to visit again!
Really nice place, amazing and comfortable bed. Big and spacious bathroom with an amazing shower. We had an early check in (extra price for this) which was much needed because of a heavy rain day in Salerno. Host was very attentive and sent us some restaurant recommendations.
The location is perfect for bus, train or ferry stop or for exploring salerno. The access to the room/hotel wasvery confortable because it doesn't require you to take a key around. The hosts are very forthcoming and write back immediatelly if questions arise.
The breakfast was a croissant and delicious cappuccino, a typical breakfast in Italy. The building has fantastic architecture. Our hosts, Enzo and Antonella were funny, kind and helpful. It was inexpensive for the budget conscious.
Location was great. 8 minute walk from the ferry to take you to all the Amalfi Coast destinations. 8 minute walk from the high speed train to get you from anywhere in Italy, easily to Salerno.
The hotel is located beside the train station and in the heart of Salerno town and is within walking distance to Pier for ferries to Almalfi, Postino etc.
Staff are very nice and helpful.
