Originally from the 16th century La Famulenta was owned and operated by Jesuit monks. Their agricultural production nourished the villages of Moncalvo, Grana, Casorzo and Grazzano Badoglio. The gentle hills around these villages are called the Monferrato in the Piedmont. In 2005 La Famulenta was bought by an architect from Genoa, who restored it over the next six years in loving detail. Today it overlooks the vineyards of Fulvio and Dario Natta who are producing local Barbera and other delicacies. Surrounded by the vineyards are hazelnut shrubs that bear the famous Piedmontese hazelnuts of the variety 'Tonda Gentile' for the unique Giandujotti. La Famulenta is now a newly renovated farmhouse complex with houses and apartments of various sizes. Apartment 17 is a two-bedroom unit on the first and second floors. This well-equipped apartment is furnished and equipped to a high standard and the shared swimming pool is available for use between Easter and September.

We have found this area to be the perfect base for exploring northern Italy, whether you want to enjoy the local wine country or discover the cities of Milan, Turin, Alessandria, Asti or Casale Monferrato. All have so much to offer. Travel a little further and see the Italian coast in Liguria, the Alps to the north of Turin or the beautiful lakes.

La Famulenta is located among vineyards and the beautiful countryside of Monferrato Astigiano with its vineyards, hazelnuts and sunflowers, and yet is only minutes from the towns of Moncalvo and Grazzano Badoglio, less than half an hour from Asti or Casale Monferrato and within easy reach of numerous restaurants, wineries and other places of interest. The region is well known for cycling and hiking and La Famulenta provides the perfect base.
