As soon as you drive into the De Opstal property you sense this is a different kind of place. The owners don’t just DO hospitality as a means to an end; they ARE hospitality embodied. It feels like it’s their life’s mission. De Opstal’s old charm accommodations are surrounded by magnificent flower gardens, fruit trees, and fields that are not over-manicured, rather reflective of the owners’ true love of nature and deep desire to create an environment for their guests that engages all their senses. The only downside was having to leave this slice of paradise.

Didi took such excellent care of us during our stay! From greeting us upon arrival to answering all our questions, she was always available if we needed anything.
It was a very clean and comfortable place that we would definitely stay at again. We would very much recommend it!

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The bathroom was a little outdated, but we could overlook that. We were really happy to have a fridge in the room. Staff were incredibly friendly and accomodating to our early mornings and the breakfast was nice. We had a great room with access to the pool for the kids. It's a great hotel for families with children, it suited the purpose of our stay.

Wow! I can’t say enough about the lodge, staff and facilities. The room “tent”, was well thought out, immaculate and the best possible. The tent was right out of a movie for an African safari. The food was amazing. The activities were awesome. We feed elephants and went on safari.
Located with the backdrop of the Swartberg Mountains, Oude Meul is en route to the Cango Caves. The property features 2 pools among extensive native gardens.

The town looked neat and tidy and I love the old architecture and quaint buildings and cozy little shops. With my own transport it was easy to get around and find parking. Met friendly staff at all the shops.

Was quite surprised by the wine tasting opportunities nearby in Calitzdorp. The Safari Ranch was great, Cango Wildlife Park was exceptional, excellent managed facility. The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge elephant experience was a bucket list type experience. The Chandelier Game Lodge Buffalo as well as Giraffe experience was awesome.
The Total Garage opposite the quaint Nostalgia Restaurant are friendly and have decent wood that is affordable. The Spar is well stocked and there is an emergency Clicks Pharmacy that supports that requirement.
All and all a pleasant holiday destination with many activities to plan over the course of a week visit.

Cango Caves - do the adventure tour.
Cango Caves - do the adventure tour. Conservation Centre - as ethical as sanctuaries open to the public can be, see a huge range of animals. Meerkat Tours - fun and cute but quite overpriced and the owner is horrendously misogynistic. Nostalgie restaurant - food was amazing, however park immediately in front of the restaurant and not any further - there are 'parking attendants' that demand money, and even after paying one the others come and intimidate you (banging on the car and throwing gun symbols).

Perfect place to stop over for the night or two.
Perfect place to stop over for the night or two. Other than that there is not much to do here.
You can find big supermarket for every day shopping. We eat at hotel restaurant as not much choice. A lot of powerful like in most places in SA, just got to be careful where and when you go out.
The farm is about 7km away from the center of Oudtshoorn in a quiet area. The last 2km on gravel road. We stayed in room no 17.
The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished in a modern style. Big bathroom with separate toilet, bathtub and big shower. Most rooms have a balcony with nice views and additional hanging chair. We enjoyed a very good breakfast. The farm offers enough parking facilities as well, good value for money!
In case you are interested in a Meerkat Tour, book it directly through the hotel, as they offer a good discount!
We stayed at Pictures Boutique Hotel this weekend for a bussiness trip. We were so impressed with the service, cleanliness and the staff. Eric is outstanding and the food of top top quality. We stayed in Luxury room the smallest in the establishment and it was more than we expected. Everything is world class. The generator was a luxury in the state of South Africa we weren’t affected at all.
I will most definitely tell all to visit this establishment.
We were in Oudtshoorn to participate in a marathon. We requested breakfast packs for the morning of the race which were prepared for us the night before and given to us on check-in. We enjoyed the breakfast on Sunday morning in the breakfast room.
The hotel is well located in town, near restaurants and easy to navigate run route.
The bed is king-sized and super comfortable.
There is enough parking on the premises and it's near the rooms.

Convenient location right in the heart of Oudtshoorn - good for shopping, eating out and visiting Cango Caves and Ostrich farms. Charming older hotel - my room looked out to main street but still was quiet and comfortable. Included breakfast was especially nice served in the garden area. Staff was very helpful in getting laundry done which was much appreciated.
What a perfect place for the kids to (safely) play for hours! The breakfast was delicious with something for everyone. We were booked in the luxury unit which is not self catering, but when we wanted to braai the restaurant packed a whole picnic basket with all of the cutlery we needed.
This was probably the best hotel we stayed in during our trip in South Africa. Everything is extraordinary. Such a pity we could not stay longer. I would go back to Oudtshoorn just to stay at the Riverside Guest Lodge.
The location was stunning. The atmosphere was peaceful. We loved the property’s rustic beauty and comfort. The self catering facilities were well provided, including a gas bottle for power outages.
Very hospitable, the owner and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Rooms were spacious, clean and well equipped; nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely return when I’m next in Oudtshoorn.
Lovely grounds and well located between Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves. We had a tent overlooking the river with views of ostriches drinking from the river.
What a fantastic location. The property had everything we needed and we will certainly book it again when we go to Oudtshoorn again. Fantastic service!
