The view, atmosphere, attractions and locals were all impressive. However, we found out the hard way that the prices of goods and services have increased a lot... Taxi drivers charge a hefty amount for short distances (600 rupees for one kilometer) Many hoteliers are reluctant to take dinner orders in-house because of the high price of food items in the city Not sure whether this issue is a result of enforcing tourist prices, inflation, or an issue because we searched in the wrong places... Ella has the most spectacular location, really gorgeous.
Ella has the most spectacular location, really gorgeous. The train trip was wonderful. The waterfalls all around are lovely. The stores in town were fun. But we were surprised by how many tourists there were, how crowded and overdeveloped. Nice little town, you can do some nice outdoor activity such as trekking to little Adam’s pick and zip line, see the waterfall, the famous nine arch bridge, enjoy some good meals in one of the restaurants on the main road. Rice&curry at the Chill cafè is very good, the dream cafe has an international cuisine so I had a chicken wrap also really good, instead at The Barn I had a really good overnight oat breakfast. You can also take a cooking class some restaurants offer this activity three times a day 11am, 4pm and 7pm or you can also enjoy a yoga class usually you don’t need to book classes are at 8 am or 4 pm. This is such a nice town, good and plenty of food options. Lots of bars and the surrounding is very beautiful. You get spoiled here with waterfalls, hikes and so much greenery. Loved arriving here with the train, meeting other travellers and eating plenty of delicious food :) Will come back soon, next time for longer because there is so much more to see.MariaCanada

Nimal is one of the best hosts in the business; he sent a list of things he could help with before we got to his hotel and indeed he booked a trip for us to Yala National Park and Diyaluma Falls. He even helped us with finding a ride from Ella to our next stop, what more could we ask for? We enjoyed his conversation during our stay for 3 days in Ella and genuinely thank his supportive and helpful attitude during our stay.

Very comfy beds and good facilities. Also huge breakfasts! You can walk to Ella Rock from here, along the train track and also into town. Lots of bars, restaurants etc close by, around a 15-20 minute walk. Make sure you have more than just flip flops with you. Beware, the road leading up to the hotel is not suitable for any cars. You can rent mopeds or a tuk tuk will take you up there but definitely don’t drive a car!

We had a great time at the hotel and in Ella in general. He even arranged a taxi from Ella to the hotel and you can ask for him to arrange a taxi for a cheaper price. I highly recommend Hights and definitely we will come again!

Really nice rooftop with a pool, room was comfortable and they had free water and toiletries. Breakfast was nice and the staff was very accomodating because they let us have early breakfast the day we were leaving. Staff would also bring us up and down the hill in their shuttle which was very convenient.
