Provincial capital and robust market town. A solid middle class city not built on tourism. Udon Thani provides a much more authentic Thai experience than tourist hubs like Chiang Mai. Public transport is weak and it helps to be a vigorous walker. If you want an authentic experience, this is the place. But if you prefer a huge selection of shops, restaurants, cafes and night markets that cater to western tourists, Chiang Mai is your place. hotel in midst of some renovations - room still needing work , bathroom had water damage on ceiling -plenty parking need more towel racks if swimming , no bed bedside lamps - quite tucked away from busy centre of city but not too far, adjacent to airport no noise, local side walk thai restaurants close by , plus 7 eleven if required , , had pool but like most t a bit heavy handed on the chlorine - breakfast included to satisfy most appetites- staff friendly , value for money and suited our needs

Hotel is in a quiet pocket of the city so you're not getting much noise, behind the hotel there seems to be some rental property where people were drinking and being a bit loud but you couldn't hear it in the room, just if you're on the balcony.
