This B&B is managed by Matteo, a descendant of the family owning the Palazzo. Our room was on the ground floor, breakfast was served on the piano nobile. Stairs not a problem. This B&B is located among the winding medieval streets of historic Fermo. The day rooms we passed through, are are appointed with historic family photographs, cultural items and of course the library. We enjoyed learning about the family’s ancestors and finding a resemblance between Matteo and his grandfather’s portrait.
Room: Queen bed, plenty of room to stretch out, bath is huge with a decorative marble tub. Breakfast is very good!
Parking: a pass explained by Matteo, allows you to park on the nearby streets. Attractions: The Roman Cistern (Cisterne Romane) is unique to the city, this is an enormous reservoir of 30 barrel- vaulted rooms, built under Augustus in AD 41-61, to supply the town and ships sailing from its port. Tours are arranged through the information office in Piazza del Popolo.
Some of the the cisterns were used used by Fermo’s water company until 1982 and others served as bomb shelters during WWII. This is an amazing place! Also the Pinacoteca Civica is worth a visit for the “Adoration of the Shepherds” painted by Rubens in 1608. In the evening Fermo has good flood lights throughout its historic quarter illumiating for example, Torre Matteucci. Capolinea Ristorante is very good for dinner. For dessert their chocolate soufflé with pistachio heart is outstanding!
Fermo can be busy but also sometimes very quiet. You park just outside the walled part and maybe at busy times it may be harder to find a space but we never had a problem. There are buses that go up to the top. Excellent views of surrounding countryside. A few interesting aspects inside to visit and the combined ticket not expensive. Next year may try to go to a performance at the theatre. Several restaurants to eat at. I like the one just at the entrance but yet to try the one on the left as you go in

FERMO and its surroundings have so many beautiful things to discover and not so well known: it is like a gift to arrive here.
GRAND Piazza, medieval white cathedral, wonderful view,
a little italian town of art,
ancient precious library... kilometres of sandy beaches.
Food, good prices, people!

A warning: the train station on the coast serving Fermo is called Porto San Giorgio! From there, Fermo is a bus ride away into the hills.
The b&b Casa dell'Artista is just that: Alessio's father was a wonderful (unknown) artist, and the house is full of his paintings, worthy of a museum.
The town of Fermo is a maze on a hill, a place to get lost in, as long as you are not in a hurry to find the b&b. Alessio will explain the simplest way to find it...
A trip to Ascoli Piceno is highly recommended. I took the bus, and there is also a train, both from Porto San Giorgio. A much larger town, it has some of the best Italian architecture I have ever seen. The street market I chanced upon in the square by the tourist office offered all manner of goods at great prices (probably a Wednesday, check it out!).
Nice location, but you have to walk more than 10 minutes downtown. To the center it’s more like 30 minutes. It’s possible, we did it frequently, but there aren’t always sidewalks and people were driving pretty wild occasionally. If you have smaller children (ours are 14, 16, 16, 18) I can see that being a problem.
Fermo is beautiful and this hotel is a good starting point to explore it. It is nice and quiet. Rooms were clean and good. Breakfast was ok.
Our room was large but rustic and oddly furnished - the space was formerly a stable. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was not included but some snacks and coffee were available in the room. There are several interesting things to see in Fermo (museum, theater tour, and cistern tour) and the room is a short walk from the city center.
The breakfast was excellent, there was a lot of variety and the hotel was near the beach which was convenient. The staff were amazing and friendly, we arrived at the hotel really late due to flight cancellations but they made our stay very comfortable. The hotel was clean and facilities were good.
- very delicious food, a lot of locals have dinner at the restaurant which is always a good sign
- big and nice pool
- very friendly staff
- Close to fermo, but still in the countryside ("in the nature" feeling)
Great apartment with lovely rooftop views. Spacious and clean. Friendly and helpful host and team. Fab breakfast! We only had it on our last morning and I wish we’d arranged it every day!!
Love that the palazzo was in the main part of historic Fermo. Breakfast was good. The staff was fantastic, very helpful with all request. Look forward to going back again.
