Cunningham Cottage Guest House, hotel in Kuruman

This B&B has a beautiful garden, a very welcome place to recover after a long drive. There are little extras supplied like complimentary chocolates, toiletries, and a decanter of fortified wine and glasses to welcome guests. The breakfast supplied was very good, with superb coffee. This was our third visit, and it will continue to be our stopover point on future trips to the Northern Cape from Gauteng.

Our guys go up on a regular basis for work and are super impressed with everything. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, everything in working order. Their only complaint is that they cannot spend too much time in the garden as they are in Kuruman to work! Other than that, they really enjoy it. Perfect place for a work crew.

Kuruman itself has deteriorated since my last visit.

Kuruman itself has deteriorated since my last visit. We had someone try and open our car door while driving through town! Luckily my door was locked, not sure what would have happened then. We tried to avoid the main road through Kuruman to avoid any further occurances. Took back roads where we could, but there are a lot of potholes. The state of the town is not good, very untidy and full of rubbish lying around.

We arrived late (5.30pm) on a Saturday afternoon. The town was full of litter as well as what looked like sewage coming from a public area. There was public drinking overflowing onto the street, broken bottles and rubbish everywhere. We were not comfortable going out to look for food. All the restaurants appeared to be closed except for the fast food places anyway. I would never go back there again, Drive through or stop sooner.

My first time in Kuruman. An extremely busy town. However has all eating places and a good mall. However I did want to visit key places of interest but was warned off by the potential crime in the area.

Moffat Museum - the main reason for our visit - was a huge disappointment. Buildings seemed OK, though all locked up, and seemed to function only as a conference venue. None of the staff even greeted us, let alone provided directions, except for a young man we found carrying chairs who offered to let us through if we paid him R20 each. Eye of Kuruman somewhat littered with plastics, polystyrene etc, but the morning we left, we saw a whole team cleaning it up.

It was a middle point in our journey to Springbok from Joburg . Unfortunately the town is rather a mess and looks run down and the Moffat mission was deeply disappointing. It could be a real gem as the history is so interesting but it’s totally neglected .
