The receptionists are super friendly, they always provide me with detailed information. Our family stayed in the one-bedroom apartment on the ground floor with a nice view to the pool. The apartment looks older than in the pictures, but everything is working as expected, so it didn’t concern us at all. Our 8-year old kid loves the pool and the cats very much and surely we will come back again. Thanks for hosting us.

Everything was perfect, close to everywhere, with super nice, helpful, and friendly staff, and a complete breakfast. This was my favorite place during my whole stay in Thailand. The room where we stayed was kind of big with a lovely Asian Japanese style, in my opinion. There was nothing to complain about regarding cleanliness, and they replaced our bottles of water and towels if needed, with amazing daily service. In the lobby, they helped me book activities during our stay, and the recommendations for tours were accurate and amazing. This place exceeded my expectations for sure.

FAQs about hotels in Chiang Mai

The Rose of the North

Surrounded by Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystical capital of the North. With more than 300 temples, it's considered one of the most important cultural centers in the country.

Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still has a relaxed and laid-back feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.

This reputation is partly due to its proximity to lush green areas, mountains like Doi Suthep, and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 37 miles away with Thailand’s highest mountain.

Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city center are a popular choice, with picturesque scenery featuring its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.

The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Road hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.

Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss "The Rose of the North" deals on Booking.com!

I had a friend who was able to give me a head start in getting around the town and district. Also on one day I hired a driver for about 3 hours to drive me around to the sights he thought were worth visiting. That was very cheap, 1000THB and good value. Just make sure their English is good enough for what you want, otherwise it would be a pain. The town is really clean. No rubbish to speak of anywhere. Most of the action is from about 10.00 am through to midnight when it is the cooler hours of the day. The fresh food markets are very interesting to get an idea of how the Thai people transact business. An interesting place to visit is the Museum of Makers. Doesn't get much of a write-up but worth it. It is an arts and crafts location with very good quality items - clothes, jewellery, furniture, coffee. The building is great architecture, modern Thai.

I loved it in Chiang Mai.

I loved it in Chiang Mai. The temples are beautiful, the Chiang Mai night bazaar was lovely (probably one of my favorite night markets, as they had shopping, food, and Muay Thai fights), and many day trips available. The nicest elephant sanctuaries seem to be located here as well. I went to Chai Lai Orchid for a day at the elephant sanctuary and had the greatest time of my life. The only downside about Chiang Mai was I went in April which happens to be burning season. Air quality wasn't great. It was considered "Unhealthy" throughout my stay but that didn't stop me from being outside and doing activities. Just be careful.

Chiang Mai is mostly flat; the old town being defined by a rectangular "moat" . There are many interesting temple sites and places where markets are held, some of which are quite special. The people are delightful and are used to their town being inundated with foreigners. There is plenty of nightlife when the temperature is easier than the daytime heat. There is a huge range of eateries. The street food I found much preferable to some of the food "courts" especially set up for visitors. Shopping is endless. The clinics are also.

City is good, people is also friendly. All is centered to make visitors spend money. avoid trips to shops nearby (ride will be offered by tuc tuc drivers) it is just a scam, nothing is like try to show..... In general there is nothing really interesting to do overthere, national park visit is also nothing, not interesting.

It is a wonderful part of Thailand and great place to enjoy. Just remember that to get around this city the red Ute buses are not like the blue Ute buses of Pattaya. Price for use seems to differ with the driver and they tell you when to get off. So it is safer to use Uber.

The hotel was in a central Old City location but was also quite peaceful. Just a few minutes walk to a great selection of restaurants, cafes and the Sunday Walking Market. The room was really comfortable, clean and the whole place had a homely feel. Loved that I had an enclosed balcony that looked over the garden. The owners were lovely: friendly and really helpful in arranging a taxi for the airport and having my room ready earlier than the check in time, which I much appreciated. What an amazing hotel, I could write all day after staying here for over a week. Empress is beautifully designed, immaculately maintained and with a lovely staff. The breakfast is solid with some American and Asian choices to satisfy everyone. The restaurant has limited choices but the food is good for a hotel. There is a lot of shopping and eating around the hotel but it's a taxi ride to visit the old city. It's definitely a pricier place for Chiang Mai but the luxury is worth it.

The service and hospitality were 5 star. The property is beautiful. The location was good for walking. Fresh fruit and delicious coffee were the highlights of breakfast, served on the terrace next to the river. There was a large selection at the buffet as well as a menu for orders. Excellent location! 1 Minute to sightseeing in Chiang Mai University and the famous street foods nearby. The room is the old condominium which is renovated in boutique hotel / dormitory / airBnb style. It looks not so premium, but extremely comfortable, especially the bed!
