The old buildings are very well-maintained. The local authorities are trying hard to make this city a real U.N. World Heritage. The old town is small, so it is good to go around by foot. Try to eat Pical Mbah Soero inside the compound of the Mbah Soero Mining Tunnel. It consists of mixed vegetable & yellow noodle with peanut sauce. It is influenced by Javanese food brought into Sawahlunto by Javanese chained workers (orang rantai). Try also teh talua (tea mixed with raw egg, condensed milk & a bit of lime juice).
