Shinkaifujishoen, hotel in Yamanakako

Located in Yamanakako, 11 miles from Fuji-Q Highland, Shinkaifujishoen provides accommodations with free bikes, free private parking and a bar.

Very nice couple managing the hotel, with a lot to do in and around the hotel, and marvelous lake. Large room, with bathroom, and other shared Japanese baths (could not really use them, as arrived at 7 PM, and on busy week end, so we all occupied). The owner could pick us up at the local bus station, drive us back, and even drove us to nearby restaurant! So helpful. Have a few bicycles for cycling around the lake.

We did not have time to explore the town at all, but overall seemed like a beautiful place by the lake. Would highly recommend because I think this place is less mobbed by tourists that Fujikawaguchiko.

It was a nice place to stop for a few days before heading back to Tokyo. Great places to eat and beautiful walks around the lake. There is a bathhouse not to far from the hotel but they do not allow tattoos- no exceptions.

This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views.

This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views. I went in October so out of the main season and it was nice and quiet with not many visitors around. Renting a Swan boat and feeding the ducks was great fun! I couldn't find a single vegetarian restaurant in town so something to be aware of if you don't eat meat or fish. Just be aware of the army base from which you can hear artillery fire every day. It's loud and a little disconcerting! I think Yamanakako is less touristy than Kawaguchiko which for me is a good thing.

It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities.

It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities. There's several hiking trails around the Lake, which are well marked and reward you with an awesome view of Fujisan when you get to the destination. The trails up to Mt Takazasu and Mt Myojin are good and take in the Panorama-Dei spot which is popolar for viewing Fujisan. All-day parking is available at Yamanakako Community Plaza Kirara, and the trailheads are 20-30min walk away from there. There is also a very nice 15km cycling path around the Lake, which is a very long but pleasant walk. If you're not outdoorsy, then the options are more limited to the nice restaurants, and there are high end and nice lower-priced options (Denny's, Cafe Gusto). There are also various onsen and sento in the town.

Pros - Mt Fuji is a glory to see so close up and the clouds and the skyline around the mountain were in a constant dance of change - breathtaking. The reflections of the sunset clouds on the lake were were dazzling. The freshness of the pristine air. The lack of high humidity. The sense of well-being offered by the area. The vehicles stopped at zebra crossings which isn't always the case in certain cities. Cons - At times we have to walk on the road within half a metre of passing vehicles. That could have possible unwanted outcomes.

    Yamanashi in general was gorgeous.

Yamanashi in general was gorgeous. We stayed at Yamanakako and it was a great place to stay at to get away from the stressful work environment in the city. We didn't get to eat at any local restaurants since we were too busy exploring the surrounding areas but you won't be left wanting for food options since everywhere you go, there's a restaurant nearby and they all looked so good. I think it would be more convenient if you travel around by car since the bus fare can get a little expensive if you're traveling far.

Friendly and bilingual hosts ! Fabiola was so warm and helpful. The accommodation was very spacious (even for 10 of us) with rustic but comfortable interiors. The fireplace kept us warm and we had a fun time doing the bbq on the terrace outside. We could hear deer outside and one of us spotted some deer as well. We could see the silhouette of Mt Fuji .. it would have been great if the weather was clear but we need to come back for that one. Overall a great place to escape from urban life.

I was able to make a special order for a gluten-free breakfast with an extra ¥200 fee which was great! The coffee for my husband was exceptional and deliciously made, you can tell the host is a professional! We played ping-pong, relaxed while watching a movie in the living-room area and also took a great ofuro. We were also able to borrow a couple of bikes and go around the beautiful lake of Yamanakako. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice getaway place

Location was great, great view of Fuji from our balcony. It is in quite a remote part of Yamanakako (last stop on the bus), but it was lovely and quiet and not touristy at all. The owner was super friendly, she held our bags for us the next day. They have two really cute and large cats, and lots of cat decor which was cute. The futons and the room was very comfortable. Really enjoyed our stay, highly recommend!

The heaters for the futon! It made the bed even more comfortable. They really make a difference for a good night's sleep in winter. Even though there's a likely chance Mt Fuji may not be seen due to weather conditions, it's right by the lake, so it's very close to nature. You can see ducks and swans all around you. Very calming and relaxing atmosphere. Good for escaping from the city.

Traveled with kids. Excellent value for money and quality. A beautiful large hotel in a traditional Japanese style: classic onsen, beautifully decorated interiors and a hall with billiards on the ground floor, a large terrace, a garden, a lot of space around. Kind and very helpful staff. We really enjoyed our experience. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

Great location. Short distance to the lake. You can easily go to the lake within 10 min on foot and enjoy the beautiful scenario of Fuji-san and the Yamanakako. Fully facilitated where you can feel comfortable like at home. Loved some game options which was enjoyable for kids. I would recommend this house for family trip. Plus hosts are nice people.

This is a quiet and elegant hotel, It has a unique Japanese style, and the boss is kind and friendly. If time permits, a good soak in the bath can make the tiredness of the day disappear. Quite close to the lake, you can quickly see the beautiful and dreamy Mount Fuji. Looking forward to visiting again~

Everything!! The owner is amazing and so sweet i can't wait to come back. The location is perfect, just a short walk away from the path that goes around the lake. The bath was the most relaxing I have ever had. Waking up to the view of Fuji-san in the distance was a dream come true.

The onsen was amazing. We also had a view on the Mont Fuji from our bedroom. Our room was little old - which makes sense as the hotel celebrated its 60 years anniversary. The hotel staff was so kind that it compensated our stay making it very enjoyable. We highly recommend the hotel.
