I don't write a lot of reviews, but this hotel deserves all the positives I can give it. In retrospect, we wish we had scheduled to stay more than one night. The property and rooms are exceptionally clean and look almost new. The five course dinner (which we didn't know about until we arrived) is phenomenal. So is the breakfast. Conveniently situated on the east side of the Stelvio Pass and is perfect for exploring and hiking. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Featuring a restaurant and free spa with hot tub, Turkish bath and sauna, family-run Gasthof zur Sonne lies in Stelvio, part of the namesake national park. An extensive buffet breakfast is served daily. Zur Sonne’s rooms with attached bathroom overlook the mountains and come with a flat-screen TV. Each is fitted with carpeted floors while some boast a balcony. Handmade cakes, cold cuts and cheese accompanied by egg dishes and juices are served for breakfast. The restaurant specializes in South Tyrol and national cuisine. Free transfers to Spondinia Train Station are arranged on request. A public ski bus running every 15 minutes takes you to the Trafoi ski area, 3.1 mi away, while Sulden ski slopes are 5.6 mi away. The property, which also includes a panoramic common terrace, organizes hiking tours 3 times a week.
Couples in particular like the location – they rated it 9.2 for a two-person trip.
