Gorgeous city by the sea.
Gorgeous city by the sea. Beautiful blend of the old and the new, from a bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel to a modern shopping plaza in the centre of town near the main train station. A definite Parisian feel with lots of colorful sidewalk cafes and shops along clean, tree lined streets. Viano do Castelo has a nice maritime feel to it with nearby beaches, historic old city center, many good restaurants, and sits below the amazing Santa Luzia Cathedral. One must visit the Cathedral and if daring go up to the top of the Cathedral (mix of elevator and then steps) for the best 360 degree views of the region, ocean and land.MichaelCanada - 10Scored 10

I loved everything about Viana do Castelo. It was New Year's Eve and the atmosphere was incredible. Definitely one of the best nights of my life! The people, the decorations, the lights and although a lot of fun was being had, it just felt so safe and welcoming! The next morning the streets were spotless, everyone wishing you a Happy New Year and it was all in all just perfect. I'll definitely be coming back. Lovely town to stroll around with lots of interesting buildings/architecture, nice boutiques and specialist shops and a good mix of places to eat. If we had stayed longer it would have been worth having a car but for 4 nights it was fine without. (Hotel has a car park)

Viana do Castelo is a great place to just relax if you want to get away from the tourist scene in the big cities. It's easy to go on day trips and outdoor activities from there. The food was amazing, the people polite and friendly. We hope to go back.

They took the clearly labelled luggage to the wrong location. Susanne at the Front Desk, who spoke Portuguese, English and Spanish made a couple of phone calls for us to the company and had things sorted out in short order. Our luggage was delivered within the hour! Fantastic help! I should also mention that the morning breakfast was the best we have had since our arrival in Portugal, 2 weeks ago. There is a fisherman's base right up hill next to it which you can visit to see how fishing is done locally. A couple restaurants just over the street - one taberna and one a bit more upscale. You can take a walk around the streets nearby to see authentic Portugal. Just remember to greet people. Nice small pool and private parking as a bonus.

The facilities were modern, pristine and well equipped. Our host, Maria was also super helpful and thoughtful, making us feel very much at home for the duration of our stay. Highly recommended.
