I think Cortona lacks out door eating and calling cafes ....mind you I did visit in January but other cities have outdoor heaters so that visitors or even locals can enjoy sitting out on clear sunny but cold days. Not much option if any if you are wanting to eat between 3 and 8pm ... but finding most places in Italy in the small historical towns are the same. So make sure you either have a late breakfast or stop in time to get some lunch in! :)))

It is a very beautiful medieval city close at the border of Tuscany and Umbria. It is definitely not an easy walk city as there are not so many flat streets. But it is worth it!
From Piazza Garibaldi, you could have a very nice view to Tuscany.
You find few parking lots around the city but from there you need to walk few stairs to actually get in to the city.
The italian ice cream, of course, is unbeatable. I can also recommend Cortona Bistrot. I think I have eaten there one of the best tiramisu.
The city is worth for couple of days' visit but the surroundings are also very nice (e.g. Lake Trasimeno).

The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona.
The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona. Cortona is very small, I came in once during a three day stay. Considering that it was 50 euro to drive in to town I would have only came back in for another dinner if I was with a group. Be ready to walk uphill! I walked all the way to the top and then made my way down to eat. Sadly I can’t remember the name of the restaurant I went to but it was tiny with a family feel and the food was incredible

Beautiful, romantic, old place!
Beautiful, romantic, old place! An ideal experience - away from the crowds and chaos of top destinations like Florence, but at the same time providing every element of romantic and beautiful Tuscany and ancient Italy in general!
Alessandro and Rita were the kindest hosts imaginable! When we arrived by train, Alessandro met us by car and drove us to this lovely farmhouse apartment. Rita had baked a galette to welcome us which was delicious. The apartment was spacious and beautifully appointed, It was just as represented on the website, only better. The grounds were beautifully kept up and the view was amazing. We absolutely LOVED this place! Cortona is absolutely charming. This was my husband's first visit to Italy, and he can't wait to return.
The hotel manager’s (Rachele) warmth was a real plus during our stay.
The room is beautiful in all its authentic country style charm. Everything was very clean and pleasant.
We stayed only for a night to attend a wedding nearby but we couldn’t feel happier of our choice.
Definitely recommend to stay here if you want to experience the true Tuscany country side, at a very reasonable price, hosted by welcoming and friendly people.
Jardoen who runs Casa Dresosti is an amazing host. Although it's busy in Florence and Rome, small towns and villages like Cortona during January and February are slow because of it being off-season. Jardoen greets you when you arrive and gives you a hardy welcome. Breakfast in bed is customary but my partner and I choose to sit with him in the morning. If I am ever back in Cortona again, I definitely would stay here.
Wonderful, responsive hosts. Pool cleaned every morning in an unobtrusive way. Pool furniture and mattresses were excellent! Refrigerator cooled well and freezer was perfect. Bright overhead lighting in bedrooms was a bonus--rare in Italy. Screens in every room--another rarity! This allowed us to enjoy the fresh air of the cooler evenings and kept ALL mosquitoes OUT! Covered parking was also appreciated.
We had a lovely stay at Hotel Italia Cortona. The hotel is located right at the centre of Cortona. The host was very friendly and helpful and gave us numerous of tips on places worth visiting in and around Cortona. The room was spacious and clean and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast is really nice and the view from the breakfast room is simply stunning. I'll definetly visit again one day.
Really a fabulous hotel with magnificent views over the surrounding Tuscan countryside. Beautifully appointed room and bathroom. Wonderful buffet breakfast spread. Very good value for money and highly recommended to any visitor to Cortona. The bus stop linking Cortona to the train station is conveniently situated just outside the hotel. What more could one ask for?
Exceptional hotel, highest level of hospitality. Everything was above our expectations - comfortable, clean rooms, fantastic breakfast, friendly and very helpful staff. And all this in beautiful Cortona!
Like in many medieval towns there is a shortage of parking places, but the personnel of the hotel will effectively help you to park your car.
Terre dei Cavalieri is a totally renovated farmhouse, with ample rooms, bathrooms, beautiful swimming pool area, very good restaurant.
Excellent location to visit Cortona and adjacent areas in Tuscany and Umbria.
Everything clean and organized.
Restaurant was fully booked on Saturday night, local people like the place and the food.
The location is just perfect. One of the best experiences I ever had. The hotel is simple, more like a B&B. The owner, Paola, is just a wonderful person, making you feel like you are at home. The breakfast have some of here own home made bread and cakes. The building, like the whole town, has its own history, built over 600 years ago...
For the room, the location, having access to a pool and their warm hospitality you cannot fault this place. The breakfast selection was also one the of the best we have come across in Italy. A great option if you are visiting Cortona and want a mixture of relaxation and exploring the town.
The location of this hotel is unbelievable. From the pool you have the prettiest view on Cortona. You get to stay in a very old house and it is amazing how well things have been preserved. Like you are visiting a movie scene! The staff is also very friendly and helpful.
Ideally located to centre of Cortona, shops, restaurants and bus stop. Beautiful decor in apartment, comfortable bed and thankfully 2 very efficient fans. The staff at Together in Tuscany were very helpful and spent time to show everything in apartment, on arrival.
This is an adorable apartment right in the historic center of Cortona.
The apartment is decorated very nicely, and had everything one would need. It was very quiet. The host, Serena, was very attentive and even provided treats and snacks for our stay.
I've stayed in this hotel a couple times now. The double rooms are much more spacious than the singles. Great location with lovely staff. The breakfast is plentiful and overlooks the wonderful valley. Great place to stay to explore all of Cortona.
Location was very close to the town center and the apartment was updated with most everything one would need while in Italy. Having an ice-maker and coffee pot made our parents who were in tow very happy.
Great location in the countryside just outside of Cortona. Easy to get to all of the Tuscany region. The staff and food were amazing. Rooms were comfortable and clean! Very accommodating!
The property is spacious, easy to reach, close to Cortona and excellent point to explore Montepulciano area. It was fully booked, yet we had a feeling we were there alone.
Wonderful in every way! Close proximity to the center of Cortona which is one of our favorite towns to visit in Italy…definitely one of the best places to stay!
Probably the best surprise of our visit to Italy. Cortona is a beautiful town, and then to discover that we were staying at the Cortona Resort was even better!
