It was really close to the bus stop and Takegawara Onsen. We loved the Beppu cold noodles restaurant called "Rokusei", which again was close to the hostel. The area around the hostel had a retro atmosphere, but the hostel itself was stylishly built. The prices were reasonable.

Old, tired, mold in bathrooms, no English speaking staff, over priced, breakfast almost all Japanese food and quality wasn’t very good. Don’t stay at this place unless you pay approximately $50/night.

Beppu has a great vibe, especially the area around Beppu Station and the area near the "hells". The sight of water vapour rising between all the buildings is truly something. But aside from the hells and the hot springs there is not that much more to do in the city itself. So 2-3 days should definetely be enough for people who have a limited amount of time in Japan. The city of Yufu one hour busride from Beppu and certainly worth a visit. There are a couple of other great places in Oita Prefecture worth visiting but those are a little bit hard to access without a car.

Beppu is one of the best cities I visited, it is a city is in the middle of sea and mountain. There is a lot of Onsen where you can be easy to find around the city, Beppu is called " City of Onsen".
You can relax and release any daily tired at the onsen bath (especially if you bath onsen pool outside)
Furthermore, you can go to viewpoint to see the Beppu city and mountain view.
It is a good memory to visit there.

The seven hells of Beppu (Jigoku) are really great to fill a day. You can have a nice walk along the shoreline and the mall near the bay offers a great shopping opportunity. There are a few good restaurants that you can enjoy. The neighborhood around the Jigoku is quite nice, the rest of Beppu not so much. Two or three days are enough for this town.

We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas.
We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas. We did not rent a car so we traveled by bus. We did not get to see the onsen areas as I did want to try some of the other ryokan onsens. The only problem I had was with the stools that you sit on to swcrub yourself.

I really enjoyed the hot springs!
I really enjoyed the hot springs! I went to Hyotan Onsen and did the hot springs and sand bath. the sand bath was a little underwhelming but the hot springs was perfect! there was also a waterfall bath which was a nice experience. the sand bath was a "do it yourself" situation where you dig a hole and cover yourself. it was nice; i recall i fell asleep. It was a little underwhelming; i would do just the hot springs again though! Also, the sand bath area was kind of small and co-ed, 7-8 rows and probably fit 4 people per row. Other than that, Hyotan had a dining restaurant and tried the cold ramen; refreshing after a nice hot dip! Getting around Beppu was easy for me. i was mostly around just the hot spring area and the area of the 7 devil hot springs (which i ran out of time and did not get to do all but was happy i got to do at least 5). the area was also kind of hilly... so one may be walking uphill a bit but no big deal, not a steep incline. Overall, Beppu was a great experience and I would come back for the hot springs as it's what the town is known for!
For such a good price you get a traditional Japanese apartment all for yourself! It was clean, comfortable and cozy. There is no shower, but they give you towels to use in public baths (and there are tons of them around). Speaking of which, the location is amazing, it's in the coolest area of Beppu where steam is coming out of the ground on the streets. There is a big popular onsen in 5 minute walk and smaller ones just around the corner. The owner was very nice and told me about the best onsens and sightseeing spots in the area.
Liked the location and total concept of the hotel. It was rich with an architectural design, simple and elegant, that gave the feeling of open spaces. Breakfast was great with abundant refills. Also used and loved the Onsen on the 14th floor, rooftop pool, gym and laundromat.
My room was designed very well with an acute detail for maximizing space. From the little seat and table to the frig. Even my hot pot heater was beautifully selected. It was copper with a long spout, great for making my coffee.
We booked a "Standard Room with Tatami Area - Main building". However, when we checked in, I think they gave us the Deluxe room with tatami. Room is big and very comfortable. There is a private onsen in the room, perfect to have a soak in the morning. The hotel is next to the famous Beppu "Jigoku Meguri" Hells Tour. You can walk to 5 of the 7 Hells after checked in the hotel.
Location is extremely good (opposite the JR Beppu station) so it was easy to travel to sight see from buses and travel to the next city via train. Room was clean and quiet. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to try out the onsen at the hotel. The hotel was also close to many restaurants which made it easy for us to decide where to eat for dinner after a long day trip or two.
This is a beautiful peaceful place to stay with private onsen baths in each room. The staff were excellent. I highly recommend a stay here as it's an oasis of calm to relax. The rooms are all well equipped with everything you would need during your stay. The hotel provided a shuttle for us back to Beppu train station which was very convenient.
If you want to experience a traditional Japanese hotel (Ryokan) in Oita prefecture this is the place to stay!
Room is big, clean and has a perfect view of Beppu city.
Very good breakfast and dinner (served in the room).
Private parking available.
The possibility to book the private onsen for 50 minutes was the cherry on the cake.
Owner was very gracious and made us feel welcomed throughout the stay. We were able to communicate well despite some language barrier. Hotel has an onsen which guest can reserve a private timeslot. Location was perfect. If you drive, parking is complimentary in a nearby parking space.
The ryokan was amazing. The provided pick up and drop off from Beppu station. Although the staffs didn’t speak much English, they were very attentive and helpful. The kaiseki meals were exceptional. We loved having our private onsen in our room. We would love to stay there again
Our room was comfortable and handy to have use of a kitchen. An easy 20 minute walk to the train station to catch an early departure. Don't miss the local onsen just across the road to experience the neighbourhood.
Left door women, right door men !
A nice change from hotels.
Its a traditional Japanese building. Quite an authentic place and we are pleased to stay here.
The architecture is like falling back to old time that we usually see it in the movie.
Hotel services was good with well English speaking reception.
Onsen was good.
Indoor and outdoor onsen was really great and clean. All necessary facilities included. Room just fit 2 people and 2 large suitcases. Bus stops right next to the hotel or just across the road. Otherwise 10 minute walk to Beppu station.
It was absolutely amazong!!!
Hotel next to the station, a lot of restaurants around.
Beppu Onsens just few minutes from the hotel and the top - hotel hot bath inside
Personal speaking english and also very good brakefast.
Most beautiful bedroom - rather an appartement- we have had during our trip to Japan with private onsen, ocean view. . Personnel is fantastic, japanese dinner was excellent. Very good buffet breakfast. Memorable !
Miho-san provided an excellent onsen steamed-egg for breakfast. The location was very central and walkable to five of the seven Beppu Hells. Miho-san was very enthusiastic, helpful, and kind.
Hotel was handy to shops and restaurants. The onsen was lovely, especially the outdoor view over the bay. The rooms were very large but the bathroom tiny by comparison.
