History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano.
History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano. My husband and I are sommeliers, art and history lovers. This town delivers on all scores and the locals are incredibly inviting and friendly - even more than the typical Italian standard. This town constantly has cultural and musical events, some serious and others simply fun in nature. Wineries close by, and the wine bars, closer.

Montepulciano is beautiful and old and hilly and kind of mysterious. It's fun to walk around – although your legs get sore! All the old buildings and streets and alleys were super cool. It was also great being in the heart of wine country. We'd heard a lot about Italian hospitality but didn't get a whole lot of that – it was still fun to explore ourselves, thpough.

The setting was breathtaking.
The setting was breathtaking. The accommodation was picture book perfect and included free parking! The views from the bell tower, directly across the piazza, made the climb worth every step! Highly recommended but allow yourself a minimum of a two night stay!

We had the great fortune of stumbling into the start of their week-long Bravio delle Botti festivities in which the neighborhoods compete against one another to roll wine barrels up the steep streets of the historical center. We got to see fantastic performances by the drum and flagwaving groups, have fantastic dinners put on by each of the 8 neighborhoods (contrade), and enjoy some shows put on in the Piazza Grande. The town itself is steep and filled with cantinas. Gorgeous historical hill town surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves. It's Tuscany at its finest. Fairly well touristed, so be cognizant of prices and a few tourist traps, but otherwise very pleasant.

Montepulciano is a small town and everything is within walking distance, but it's very hilly (up and down). There are several good dining/drinking options (Trattoria di Cagnano on via Dell'Opio Nel Corsa was great for a late dinner!) and good for shops (tourist and retail/clothing/leather). Wine tasting is a must too (great wine options by the glass at the Montepulciano fortress and Enoliteca on via Di Gracciano Nel Corso)

This is a very nice city, however not for the faint of heart. You have to be in good shape as you are walking steep up hill to get to the top of the city. The main street is downhill, so if you happen to stay in a hotel at the top of the hill, you are constantly walking up and down to get anywhere. There is some paid parking at the top, the rest of the parking is down the hill. It is a nice city to visit for the day, not worth staying overnight. There are some wine stores, I recommend Talosa,(off a side street near Piazza grande) they have a wine cellar worth looking at as it is an old tunnel built during WWII. Sales girl was very friendly and helpful
I recently had a delightful stay at this hotel close to Montepulciano. The staff exuded genuine warmth, always ready to assist and make our stay comfortable. Our room was spacious, immaculately clean, and designed to enhance relaxation. But what truly took our breath away was the astonishing view of the Tuscan landscape that greeted us every day. Nestled perfectly to offer a panorama of Tuscany's beauty, this hotel is a gem for those wanting to immerse themselves in the region's splendor. Highly recommended for a memorable getaway.
Staff was very friendly and supportive. Offering to help carry bags from car 100 meters away, offering to carry upstairs. Staff gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants, and offered support wherever they could.
The town of Montepulciano is very beautiful with goreous views all around, and this hotel has one of the best locations and staff in the town. Hotel provided reserved parking less than 50 meters away (and on the same level, not down a big hill), which made the stay more pleasant.
Location was fabulous in the center of activity, adjacent to Piazza Grande. We had ready access to restaurants, shops and plenty of history, as well as having nearby services (i.e. laundromat). Breakfast at the hotel was plentiful and excellent - especially those warm croissants! Staff was so friendly, caring and hospitable, and offerred wonderful recommendations. Having been to Montepulciano several years ago, this really fullfilled our desire to return and stay within the old city walls.
We loved our visit. We will be in Italy from the US for 3 weeks. This by far is the best place we have stayed. Everything was to perfection and was exactly as described in Booking.com. Spacious, gated and very safe which includes underground parking. I loved the jacuzzi tub which is almost obsolete. There is nothing like a hot bath after touring or hiking all day. A shower to rinse off is also part of the jacuzzi or soaking tub. Also a second bathroom w/ shower is a plus.
Paola is an incredible host. She was in direct communication the entire stay. Whether she was answering questions about the area or making dinner reservations for us.
The apartment was exactly as pictured. We were on a long trip and had stayed in hotels so it was nice to have a kitchen so we actually bought bread, meats, and cheese and stayed in for a couple of nights just enjoying the hilltop town and the cozy apartment.
I highly recommend this property!
What an amazing stay.
This is a truly family run hotel with so much happiness and enthusiasm, they are so happy to have you there and happy to engage in conversation.
Everything was done well, Nicolo (I hope this is right) makes breakfast very interesting in such a good way, Mataeo cooking is suburb.
If going to Montepulciano, please do yourself a favour, travel a few minutes more and stay at this place, you will not regret it.
We had a wonderful stay, we were welcomed by the staff and owner, and then had a fabulous lunch prepared by the in house chef (pre ordered before arrival). It was one of our best meals during 10 days in Italy.
The pool was a very welcome reprieve from the hot summer weather.
Very close to Montepulciano and the restaurant recommended to us for dinner was also incredible.
We hope to be able to return one day
This lovely apartment was furnished with beautiful antique furniture and had everything you needed for a great stay. We loved sitting out on the rear terrace with an aperitivo enjoying the panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. Enrica was a great host and ensured we had everything we needed and provided good recommendations for local restaurants and eateries. One of the best stays we have had in Italy.
Stelle Di Monte was by far the best hotel during our 2 weeks visit to Tuscany. Nathalie and Igor are the best and they will make you feel home. The rooms are very nice, location is great (just few minutes driving to Montepulciano), and the view is amazing. Igor is a fantastic Chef and prepared the best dinner we had in our trip. We highly recommend this hotel
Meublé il Riccio is an exception family run hotel in the very center of Montepulciano. Every aspect of our stay was exquisite! Our room was beautiful, well-appointed, with an incredible view of the Tuscan countryside. The owners of Meublé Il Riccio, Gio & Ivana, are incredibly warm and friendly. Our highest, most heartfelt recommendation.
Beautifully appointed room atop the highest point of Montepulciano with views to both valleys (both sunrise and sunset!), with a cute hidden room to boot! Good tasty breakfast as well. The owner makes sure your stay is comfortable and worry free. From here you can explore all Montepulciano has to offer, which is quite a lot.
The apartment was wonderful, clean and in a perfect location for exploring and proximity to the parking area.
Everything was well stocked, and and the apartment was very spacious.
Federico our host was attentive, pleasant and a extremely helpful.
This was the best apartment we have rented in all of Italy.
Everything was perfect, it was definitely the best accommodation during my Italian trip. The owners are such kind and hard-working people and they made me feel at home, plus they have two very sweet dogs! I highly recommend staying here for everyone who wants to feel what true Italy is.
We’ve been traveling around Italy. We felt so relaxed as we arrived. it’s extremely peaceful and brings you back to the simpler things in life. The staff were absolutely lovely and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly be returning.
Excellent to drive inside city centre (!?) directly to hotel and park just outside. Excellent size of appartment and kitchen. Spacious rooms and appartment. Nice location in the small city of Montepulciano. Separate small own garden to the room.
Wonderful apartment and amazing view. The beds were comfortable and the shower had great water pressure - which isn't always common in italy! The place was very clean and the staff were very nice.
The bed was very comfortable and had
lots of pillows (unlike most other places in Italy where we’ve stayed!). The bathroom was gorgeous and very clean, with nice toiletries and slippers.
Federica and her team were incredible and facilitated every aspect of our time in Montepulciano. Probably the best hotel experience I have ever had. I wish I could give it an 11.
A lovely glimpse of old Italy within the walls of Montepulciano, parking on site and a lovely room with a small balcony with a view out over the city wall.
